A CUI (text-based interface) displays text, with commands typed on a command line via keyboard. A GUI lets you carry out functions by clicking or moving buttons, icons and menus with a pointing device. Desktops are usually controlled with a mouse and/or keyboard; laptops often add a pointing stick, touchpad, or touchscreen. A typical desktop environment includes icons, windows, toolbars, folders, wallpapers and widgets.
Your OS's main screen — gives access to the Start Menu, Taskbar, and other icons; background, colors and text size are all customizable.
Opened via the Windows-logo button (lower-left) or the Windows key. Has two panes: a Left Pane (apps, account settings, File Explorer, Power) and a Right Pane (resizable tiles, similar to the Windows 8 Start Screen).
On the Taskbar — searches your documents/files or the web for anything you type, grouped by "Best match."
